Lakeland, Fla. - The Southeastern University women's basketball team will play two Sun Conference games this week and will be heading to West Palm Beach to play Keiser University on the road Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and will return home to host Coastal Georgia Saturday at 5 p.m.
The Fire are currently 17-2 (14-0 TSC) on the season and currently on a 16 game win streak. The Fire average 78.4 points with a scoring margin of 25.6 with their opponents averaging 52.8 points per game. Through 19 games this season the Fire lead both in offense and defense against their opponents. Offensively, the Fire are shooting 46% from the field, 33% from the 3-point line, and 69% from the free throw line. Defensively, the Fire are rebounding 41.8 per game, 14.4 steals per game and 4.1 blocks per game.
Haley Howarth leads the scoring for the Fire with 262 points, averaging 13.8 points per game. Bekki Kalaydjiev leads the team in assists with 72 and in steals with 57. Gabrielle Ozoude has been a force on defense leading in both rebounds (90) and blocks (21). On Saturday against Florida Memorial, Ozoude recorded a double double leading the Fire both in points (23) and in rebounds (15). Ozoude also added a block and three steals.
The Keiser Seahawks sit currently at 12-7 (9-5 TSC) and this will be their third matchup of the season against the Fire. Keiser hast won back to back games with their last loss coming from Southeastern. The last time these two met they played in Lakeland, Fla. at The Furnace and the Fire came out on top 70-44. The first time these two faced off in West Palm Beach, Fla. the Fire topped the Seahawks 77-60. The Seahawks are led by Emily Patton who is averaging 16.4 points per game. She has had some success against Southeastern scoring a team high of 12 their matchup on 1/23/21.
The Mariners currently are 8-8 (6-7 TSC) and have won one of their last three regular season games. Leading the way for the Mariners is Kaliyah Little who averages 17.1 points per game, shooting 42% from the field, and 31.6% from the 3-point line. The Mariners have met in competition with the Fire twice this season and have fell in both those matchups. On their first matchup (11/16/20) the Fire won 79-54 and their second matchup the Fire won 75-55 (1/2/21). Kaliyah Little has continued to have success against the Fire scoring 15 points in their most recent matchup on 1/2/21 and 11 points on 11/16/20.
