LAKELAND, Fla—After two more conference victories sealed their sixth-straight Sun Conference regular season title, the Southeastern University women's basketball team gets set for their only game of the week at Webber International on Thursday.
The Fire improved to 19-2 overall and 17-0 in conference play with wins against Keiser and Coastal Georgia a week ago. SEU defeated Keiser 60-46 behind guard
Haley Howarth's 17 points and nine rebounds.
The sophomore delivered again in Saturday's 101-41 victory over the Mariners with 29 points while making six of her nine 3-PT attempts. Graduate forward
Gabrielle Ozoude tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds while blocking six shots. Senior
Madi Hecox was a perfect five-of-five from the field to score 17 points.
SEU continues to put up strong defensive numbers as they rank first in the NAIA with a defensive shooting percentage of 32.5%. The Fire also boast a scoring margin of 26.7, good for fourth in the nation.
Individually, Howarth's 3-PT total improved to 65 on the season which has her fourth among NAIA players while
Bekki Kalaydjiev's 70 steals also has her ranked fourth.
Southeastern travels to Babson Park to face a Webber team that has won six of their last eight games, including a narrow two-point victory over Keiser their last time out. The Warriors are led by senior guards Paris Copeland and Leandra Franklin. Copeland is the team leader with 13.8 points per game while Franklin leads the team with 4.9 assists and 4.5 steals per game. Franklin leads all NAIA players with 94 steals so far this season.
The Fire defeated Webber International 75-51 in their contest earlier this season. SEU didn't allow a single player for Webber reach double-digit point totals while Kalaydjiev totaled 19 points, five rebounds, five steals, and four assists. SEU currently holds an 18-11 advantage of Webber in the all-time series.
