CORBIN, Ky.—Southeastern had 12 wrestlers advance to the quarterfinals of their respective weight classes and came home with eight Top 6 finishes.
Blake Rypel finished at the top of the 184-pound weight class which included an 11-6 decision over No. 14 Luke Young of Bluefield. He got to the semis with a major decision, a first period fall, and a 7-0 decision. In the championship, the senior from Fishers, Ind. won by a 3-0 decision.
Stephen Kelle was second in the 174-pound bracket, coming away with a pair of technical falls and a 6-5 win in the championship over Joe Koontz of Lindsey Wilson.
Max Kauffman was the runner-up at 149, coming up just two points shy of No. 11 Julian Hernandez in the championship.
Kael Brisker finished third at 141, winning five matches in the consolation bracket, racking up 30 points in his first consolation bout which resulted in a technical fall. In the consolation semis, he defeated fifth-ranked and two-time All-American Trent Leon of Reinhardt.
Tyler Cabral was fifth at 157, getting a tech fall and a fall to get to the quarters, then battled through the consolation bracket with another fall and a forfeit.
Sal Silva recorded two pins and a tech fall in the bracket.
Wyatt Kirkham was fifth at 165, coming away with a pair of pins and
Andreus Bond was sixth at 149, scoring a pair of major decisions in his first two matches.
Esau Bazilme was sixth in the 125-pound bracket, winning his quarterfinal match 2-1 but injury defaulted in the semifinals.
Southeastern will take on Truett-McConnell and Reinhardt on Saturday in its first two duals of the season.
