Box Score AVE MARIA, Fla. - The No. 21 ranked Southeastern women's tennis team earned a 4-3 victory against Sun Conference opponent RV Ave Maria this Saturday afternoon. The Fire now advance to 4-2-1 on the season.
In doubles play, the duo of Beatrice Letizia and Bijelic Nadezda defeated the Gyrenes' second best 6-1. The Fire dropped two of the three matches in doubles play giving Ave Maria the point advantage.
Southeastern turned things around in singles competition, going 4-2 against the Gyrenes.
Sophomore Letizia (No. 2), freshman Bijelic (No. 3) and junior Angelique Myrtil (No. 4) made quick work on their opponents, all winning in two sets.
At No.5 singles, Priscilia Baptista won the first set 7-6, taking the tiebreaker 7-4. The sophomore from Brazil solidified a victory for the Fire, winning the second set 6-4.
The Fire will be back in action on February 24th, as they play Davenport University at the USTA National Tennis Center. Match time is still to be determined.
