LAKELAND, Fla.—The No. 21 Southeastern University women's tennis team is ready to return to Georgia looking for different results. Last week, the Fire dropped a tough match against No. 8 Brenau University before tying with No. 19 SCAD-Atlanta. This time around the Fire will face another top-tier opponent in the No. 5 SCAD-Savannah Bees on Saturday, February 15
th at the Bacon Park Tennis Courts in Savannah, Ga. at 3:00 pm.
FIRE FOCUS:
- Sophomore Priscila Baptista is coming off an impressive week where she tallied wins against No. 8 Brenau and No. 19 SCAD-Atlanta in fifth spot. She was named Sun Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her performance.
- Beatrice Letizia and Angelique Myrtil have gotten off to strong starts this season as they enter this week with a 4-1 record in the second and fourth spots, respectively.
- Southeastern has fared much better in singles play compared to doubles at this point in the year, with a 20-9 record in singles and a 6-9 record in doubles.
- The Fire are still looking for their first team win when facing a nationally ranked opponent this year, dropping all three matches against ranked teams so far.
- This is the third straight match that the Fire have gone against a team that appeared in last year's National Championship Tournament.
THE BEES:
- SCAD-Savannah is off to a 2-1 start this season with wins over Webber International and St. Thomas. Their lone loss came against No. 2 Keiser.
- Sophomore Priya Sukkanha has stood out for the Bees this season with a 3-0 record in the first position. She is currently ranked 12th in the NAIA according to ITA Tennis.
- The Bees return nine players from a squad that went 12-4 a season ago and dropped just one conference game.
