Women's Basketball Looks to Continue Building Momentum this Week

LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 16 Southeastern University women's basketball team is looking to ring out 2020 and ring in 2021 with a pair of victories in The Furnace. The Fire host the Edward Waters College Tigers in a non-conference contest Wednesday afternoon before trying to remain undefeated in Sun Conference play againts the College of Coastal Georgia Mariners on Saturday afternoon.

FIRE FOCUS:

-Southeastern has won 78-consecutive Sun Conference regular season contests. The Fire have not lost a TSC regular season game since February 10, 2017 versus Thomas University 70-64.
-The Fire are currently a perfect 6-0 in conference play, having defeated Sun Conference squads by an average margin of 29.7.
-Sophomore guard Haley Howarth is the leading scorer for SEU, averaging 14.8 points per game, as well as 2.9 steals.
-As a team, the Fire rank 13th in the NAIA in total steals (127), 16th in field goal percentage defense (.336), 18th in fewest points allowed per game (56.4).
-Reigning TSC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Gabrielle Ozoude is averaging 12 points and seven rebounds per game this season.

ALL-TIME SERIES:

-This marks the first time the Fire have taken on the Tigers since February 8, 2011. SEU is 0-6 all-time versus EWC.
-Southeastern is a perfect 9-0 versus Coastal Georgia. The closest the Mariners have ever come to knocking off SEU was in the two program's first ever meeting on November 15, 2014, which the Fire won 93-88.
-SEU defeated CCGA 79-54 earlier this season on November 16 in Coastal Georgia.

THE TIGERS:

-Edward Waters has only played two countable contests this season, although the Tigers have competed in three exhibition contests against NCAA Division I opponents in which EWC was winless.
-Most recently, the Tigers defeated fellow TSC member Ave Maria 60-49 on December 15.
-Versus the Gyrenes, senior guard La'Quanza Glover scored 20 points and hauled in 13 rebounds. Glover has posted double-doubles in both of the Tigers countable games.

THE MARINERS:

-Coastal Georgia has not competed since they upended Ave Maria 78-59 on December 5. 
-Sophomore guard Kaliyah Little leads the way for the Mariners, averaging 14.4 points per game.
-Senior guard Solrun Gisladottir has continued her dominance from three-point range, shooting an impressive 46.2% (24-52) from behind the arc on the season.
