FROSTPROOF, Fla.- The Southeastern University men's track and field team hit multiple national qualifying marks right out the gate to commence the indoor portion of their 2020 season in Frostproof at the Webber Invitational. All in all, the Fire earned five event wins and had two athletes hit the "A" or "B" NAIA national standards.
Sophomore
Davonte Vanterpool picked up where he left off in a sensational freshman campaign, hitting the "A" standard in the 60m hurdles in his first outing of the season. Vanterpool ran the fourth-fastest time in the NAIA this season with an 8.19 finish.
With the conversion rate from outdoor to indoor, freshman
Jonathan Moulton hit the "B" standard in his first collegiate meet for the 400m with a converted time of 48.98.
Freshman
Stephen Ward was the top-finisher in the 3,000m race with a 9:39.75. Freshman
Lucas Sheridon continued the success for the SEU distance runners, taking the top-spot in the 1,000m with a 2:52.83.
Sophomores
Andy Labrada and
Kyle Manuel brought home top-finishes for the Fire throwers. Labrada took first in the weighted throw with a 14.80, while Manuel tossed a 14.57m shot put to take the top spot.
The Fire return to the track next Saturday, as they compete at the Embry-Riddle Indoor/Outdoor Challenge in Daytona Beach.
