Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. – The Southeastern men's tennis team registered an impressive 8-1 victory over Southwestern College to collect their fourth consecutive win and tenth win of the season. The last time the Fire had a double-digit winning record was in the year of 2015.
The Fire started the competition off strong by sweeping doubles play.
Lucca Marcheschi and
Santiago Haas won their match 8-5 versus the Moundbuilders top pairing.
Felipe Barbosa and
Thomas Ortega picked up a win for SEU with an 8-3 victory over SWC's second best. The No. 3 duo,
Hugo Pires and
Enrique Martinez finished out doubles play, sweeping their opponents 8-0.
Overall, in singles play, the Fire went 5-1 against the Moundbuilders. The one loss for Southeastern came from being defeated in a super tiebreaker.
Hugo Pires came back to win his match in the extra set. Brazilian-native, Pires was down by a one set deficit, won the second set 7-6, taking the tiebreaker by one point. In the extra set, the senior earned a 11-9 victory over SWC foe.
The Fire will take the courts again on March 21
st, as they go on the road to play Bethel (Tenn.). Matches are set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
