Kanu Named NAIA Player of the Year, Fire Place Five All-Americans

KANSAS CITY Mo.- The Southeastern University women's soccer team continues to make history. The 2019 Fire squad placed five players on the NAIA Women's Soccer All-America Teams, the most placements in program history. This includes senior forward Uchenna Kanu, who was named a First Team All-American and the NAIA National Player of the Year. This marks the second NAIA POTY in school history of any sport and the first time a female student-athlete has received the honor.

The NAIA All-America Committee, which consists of the NAIA-Women's Soccer Coaches Association officers and seven additional women's soccer coaches, select the three 11-member teams and the honorable mention teams.

Kanu capped off an illustrious four-year career at Southeastern with 42 goals scored and 20 assists, a single-season career high in helpers. Additionally, Kanu set new NAIA career records for Goals Scored (157) and Points (366).

The Abia, Nigeria native led her team back to the NAIA National Championship Semifinals for a second consecutive season. This also marks Kanu's second-straight season as a First Team All-American.

Also joining Kanu on the First Team for a second consecutive year was junior forward Aisha Solorzano. The Guatemala City native started 22 matches this season for Southeastern, missing a stretch of games midseason to represent her home country Guatemala on the full national team in the Olympic Qualifiers. Solorzano still managed to net seven goals and register 11 assists for the Fire this year.

Landing on the Third Team for SEU was senior midfielder Bania Duran and her sister graduate center back Isamar Duran.

Bania had a career year in her final season of collegiate play, netting a career-best 19 goals and dishing out a career best 11 assists. After missing out on the national tournament the last two seasons due to season-ending injuries, Bania started in all four NAIA postseason matches for the Fire this year, scoring two goals and recording four assists during that stretch.

Isamar rounded out her three-year stay at SEU with another solid year, starting all 24 matches for the Fire, scoring a goal, and distributing a single-season career high 10 assists. Duran anchored a back line that turned in nine shutouts on the season. This is the second-straight All-American recognition for Isamar.

Sophomore goalkeeper Holly Eddins rounded out the group of All-Americans for Southeastern, landing on the Honorable Mention list. Eddins set a new single-season program record for minutes in goal this year, with 2,003 minutes of action logged. The Seffner native hauled in 86 saves this season, including 21 in the NAIA National Tournament.
