Seahawks and Wildcats Next for Women’s Basketball

LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern University women's basketball team buckled down on the defensive end last week in a sweep of its Polk County rivals.
 
In two games, the Fire allowed just 104 points (52 ppg), blocked 10 shots, and recorded 24 steals.
 
Southeastern now ranks fifth in NAIA Division II in opponent field goal percentage at 34.1%, and ranks sixth in total steals with 273.
 
The offense has been solid as well with Halee Printz leading NAIA Division II in assists per game at 6.3. As a team, the Fire are shooting 46.3% from the field and are making upwards of 10 3-pointers per game.
 
Southeastern has connected on at least 11 3-pointers in each of their last five games. Jaycee Coe has been the top shooter from outside, making a team-best 62 3-pointers which ranks 10th nationally.
 
Thursday, the Fire host Keiser which has won three of its last four games. The Seahawks rank 15th in NAIA Division II in free throw percentage, shooting just shy of 75% as a team. Keiser has three players averaging at least 13 points per game with Midori Long averaging a double-double at 13.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
 
Southeastern won the matchup in West Palm Beach on December 1st by the score of 109-47.
 
Johnson & Wales has won three of its last five following a 3-11 start to the season. Tiyanna Ayulo has put together another stellar season, averaging 21 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. The sophomore has connected on 24 3-pointers, and has 42 steals.
 
One win this week will clinch a spot in The Sun Conference Tournament. The Fire currently hold a 2.5 game lead over St. Thomas for first place in the conference.
