Defense, Run Game Power Football to First Win

Box Score LAURINBURG, N.C.—Six takeaways by the defense and 230 rushing yards pushed Southeastern to a 38-21 win over St. Andrew's.

Leading the charge was Tyrell Williams, who rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns. As a team, the Fire racked up 230 yards on the ground.

On defense, Corey Rahman recorded two interceptions and Nnamdi Umeakuana IV had a pair of fumble recoveries.

"Our defense's primary objective was to get the ball back, and they took it to heart," said coach Keith Barefield. "

Keland White got the offense started with a short touchdown run with 9:04 left in the first quarter.

Quarterback Ryder Litten found Brice Hoenisch in the end zone to put the Fire up 17-0 just before halftime.

"We went into this game trying to be the kind of team we've been in the past," said Barefield. "I thought we got away from that a little bit in our first game and our plan today was to run the ball between the tackles and I was pleased with the effort."

The Fire return home to take on UCG next Saturday night at Victory Field.
