LAKELAND, Fla.—The Fire women's basketball team is wrapping up a five-game stretch over 11 days this week with a pair of games in Arizona.
These two games will be the third and fourth straight against Top 25 competition.
Southeastern is looking to bounce back from its first regular season loss since 2016, dropping a five-point contest at home to No. 6 Indiana Tech. The Fire had season-lows in field goals made, free throws made, and points scored.
The Fire face Concordia (Neb.) Thursday night, which has been national runner-up twice in the last four years. The Bulldogs picked up a 105-63 win over SEU's Friday opponent, Arizona Christian; the Firestorm are ranked 21
st in the NAIA Division I poll.
Concordia sports a 13-1 record with its lone loss to current No. 8 Morningside on November 28
th in a nine-point game. Since that loss, the Bulldogs have rattled off four straight wins by at least 14 points.
Taylor Cockerill and Philly Lammers provide a formidable 1-2 punch with Cockerill averaging 15.3 points per game, and Lammers averaging 14. Points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
ACU's loss to Concordia snapped a four-game win streak that came following a four-game losing streak. The Firestorm currently sit at 9-5 on the season, which saw them start 5-0. Senior Courtney Christmas is the star of the team, averaging 22.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. She's also posted a team-high 45 steals and 42 blocks.
These are the final two non-conference games of the 2018-19 season as the team resumes Sun Conference play on January 3
rd in Georgia, and will play four games in the first 12 days of 2019.
