LAKELAND, Fla.—It's been 11 days, a cancellation, and two postponements since the Fire volleyball team has had a match.
Quite the stark contrast for a team that opened the year with 10 matches in a 10-day span.
The Fire have now played just one match in the last 20 days.
The season resumes in Babson Park with the first Sun Conference match of the year at Webber International.
The Warriors sit at 5-3 on the season, and are tied for the conference lead in assists per set at 10.8, and rank second in aces per set at 2.3. In its five wins, WIU has failed to drop a set.
Individually, reigning Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Year Michelle Calderon has picked up where she's left off, leading the league in digs per set at 5.5. Sophomore setter Carlee Baxter is averaging 8.8 assists per set, ranking second in the league.
Southeastern, meanwhile, boasts one of the most successful offenses in the early part of the year. The Fire lead the league in hitting percentage (.184), and kills per set (12.6). Additionally, the Fire have the top blocking team in the league, averaging two per set.
A pair of freshman have pushed that offense in
Kaity Reed and
Kiana Sawtelle. Reed is currently fifth in the league in kills per set at 2.9, with Sawtelle right behind at 2.8.
Play begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Fans that can't make the trip can watch online
