Box Score MOBILE, Ala.—In a tightly contested match, the Fire men's tennis team came up just one point short of Loyola University (La.) 5-4.
In doubles competition,
Thomas Ortega and Hugo Pires scored an 8-6 win at #3 doubles.
David Veliz and
Noah Rawls went to a tiebreaker at #1 doubles, but came up just short, giving Loyola a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.
Veliz cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at #1, and Felippe Barbosa locked down a straight-sets win at #6.
Lucca Marcheschi won a three-set battle, winning the final set 6-3 after a 6-0 loss in the second. Wins by Loyola at #2, #4, and a tiebreaker win at #5 secured the match.
The Fire have their first home match next Saturday against SCAD-Savannah.
