Early Run Propels Women’s Basketball at The Show

Box Score KINGSPORT, Tenn.—Southeastern responded to a fast start from its antithesis in a big way.
 
West Virginia Tech led the Fire women's basketball team 9-7, thanks to hitting three of its first 3-pointers, but SEU answered with a 28-0 run, en route to a 105-46 win over the Golden Bears at the NAIA Division II Showcase.
 
Southeastern (8-0) held WVUT scoreless for the final 7:23 of the first quarter and first 3:49 of the second quarter. During that span, the Golden Bears (4-6) committed 13 turnovers and were 0-for-9 from the field.
 
By the time WVUT got on the scoreboard again, the Fire were up 35-11 with 5:21 left until halftime. The Fire then scored the final 18 points of the second quarter, holding the Golden Bears scoreless for another 4:03 to hold a 55-16 lead at the intermission.
 
Leading the defense was Emma Karamovic, who was credited for five of SEU's 17 steals. She also contributed on the offensive end, knocking down four of her five 3-pointers, scoring 17 points, hauling in four rebounds, and dishing out four assists.
 
Ana Richter scored a tournament-high 29 points, and added a game-high eight rebounds. Richter also had two assists, a block, and three steals in 26 minutes of work.
 
Jaycee Coe added 19 points and four rebounds in just 25 minutes, and Halee Printz was also in double figures, scoring 10, and dishing out a tournament-high eight assists in 26 minutes.
 
As a team, the Fire converted on 68% of their field goals, and were an incredible 13-of-18 from bonus range; good for 72.2%.
 
Southeastern will close out its trip to the Volunteer State with a contest against thirteenth-ranked Indiana University East at 11 a.m.
