Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala.—The Fire volleyball team picked up a win and suffered its first loss during play at the Faulkner Invitational on Friday.
Southeastern took care of Martin Methodist with a 3-1 win in its first match of the day, then took a 3-1 loss to Bethel University (Tenn.) in the second.
An impressive first set saw the Fire total 12 kills with just one error on 21 attacks in a relatively easy 25-10 win. The Fire took the second set as well with a 25-19 win, thanks to a 9-2 run in the middle of the set. Following a third set loss by the count of 25-18, the Fire closed the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth.
The top attacker was
Lydia Rooth with a match-best 15 kills and a .389 hitting percentage. She added in 21 digs, an ace, and was part of three blocks. Uche Kojo chipped in 12 kills, and
Kelsey Morton totaled 10 more.
Lindsey Fleming had 42 assists on the 55 SEU kills.
In the second match, the Fire attack struggled, posting a .165 team attacking percentage. After dropping the first set 25-18, Southeastern came away with a 25-19 win in the second. Bethel closed the match with 25-18 and 25-20 wins.
Rooth again led the Fire attack with 13 kills. Kojo added 11 more.
The Fire return to action Saturday at Faulkner, taking on the hosts and Mobile.
