LAKELAND, Fla.- Southeastern University men's soccer coach
Clay Roberts was announced today as the head coach for the recently formed Florida Tropics of the Indoor Professional League (IPL). Roberts will continue his full-time duties as head coach for the defending Sun Conference Champion Fire.
"This is an exciting day for Lakeland and for Southeastern," said Roberts. "I'm blessed to be able to work at a wonderful University with an administration that supports what we are doing on campus and in the community."
The Tropics play a 20-game schedule between November and April. They will play their home games in the Lakeland Center, with the home opener slated for November 11, 2016.
"The Tropics are building a first class, community-centered organization and we are excited to partner with them," said Southeastern Director of Athletics,
Drew Watson. "Clay will do a tremendous job with the team."
About 100 people attended the press conference today at the Lakeland Center, with IPL Commissioner Sam Fantauzzo, Baltimore Blast owner Ed Hale, and Tropics owners Andrew & Leah Haines on hand.
