LAKELAND, Fla. -- SEU Men's Soccer closed out the regular season in thrilling fashion on Wednesday night, securing a 1-0 victory over RV St. Thomas at SEU Soccer Field to cap a strong late-season push and build momentum heading into postseason play.
From the opening whistle, the match carried the intensity expected of a late-October conference clash with tournament implications. The Fire showed early defensive discipline, matching the Bobcats' pace and physicality while limiting clear scoring chances. Goalkeeper
Noah Murray-Hawkins turned in a composed performance in goal, saving all four of the Bobcat's shots on goal and directing a back line that consistently frustrated the visitors' attack.
Both teams traded chances in the first half—St. Thomas out shot Southeastern 7–2—but the Fire remained organized and patient, absorbing pressure and waiting for their moment to strike. That breakthrough came midway through the second half. In the 73rd minute. The Fire were gifted a free kick opportunity after the Bobcat goalkeeper picked up the ball just outside the penalty box.
Miguel Londono made them pay, curving the ball around the outside of the wall and into the near side netting for what was the game winner.
From there, it was a stalemate. The defense came up with key stops in the final minutes to preserve the clean sheet. Murray-Hawkins commanded his box in the closing sequence, turning away one last shot attempt to seal the result.
The win capped the regular season with a 6-6-3 overall record and a 4-3-1 mark in Sun Conference play, as the Fire secured the Senior Night victory and their first home win of the season. Closing the year with back-to-back conference wins for Head Coach
Gerritson Craane.
Southeastern will open the Sun Conference Men's Soccer Tournament on Wednesday, November 5, traveling to face SCAD-Savannah in Hardeeville, S.C.. Match time is at 7 p.m. as the Fire begin their title defense.
