HARDEEVILLE, S.C. -- SEU's men's soccer season came to a close Wednesday night with a hard-fought 2-1 defeat to SCAD Savannah in the semifinals of the Sun Conference Tournament. The Fire battled back after a slow start but were unable to erase a two-goal deficit in their postseason run.
The Bees struck twice in the first half behind Sebastian Gomez, who opened the scoring in the 35th minute and followed with another goal just over three minutes later, assisted by Kimi Husler. Southeastern created a handful of early chances and settled into the match with sustained pressure after the break, outshooting SCAD 9-4 in the second half and 13-8 overall.
Fabio De Paula put the Fire on the board in the 66th minute with his fourth goal of the season, heading a cross from
Tapiwa Kufakurowa into the upper right corner of the net to cut the deficit in half. Defender
Adam Cooil led all players with four shots, including one that struck the crossbar midway through the second half, while
Elia Michelotti and
Francesco Calicchio each added a shot on goal.
Pietro Bronzin also came close late with a header that was turned away in the 89th minute.
Goalkeeper
Noah Murray-Hawkins recorded two saves in the match, anchoring a defense that allowed just four shots on goal after halftime. Despite generating six corner kicks and controlling long stretches of possession in the second period, the Fire couldn't find the equalizer as SCAD's back line held firm down the stretch.
Southeastern closed its 2025 campaign with a 6-7-3 overall record and a 4-3-1 mark in Sun Conference play.
