LAKE WALES, Fla. -- SEU Men's Soccer secured its spot in the Sun Conference Tournament with a thrilling 3–2 comeback victory over Warner on Saturday night in Lake Wales. The Fire overcame a halftime tie and a second-half deficit to notch their fifth win of the season, improving to 5–6–3 overall and 3–3–1 in league play.
The Fire opened the scoring in the 16th minute when
Jacob Dennis connected on a well-placed pass from
Jman Dieng, slotting home his first goal of the season to give SEU the early lead. The advantage held until the closing moments of the first half, when Warner's Adler Stone converted off a corner to send the match into the break even at 1–1.
Momentum swung in the Royals' favor early in the second half, as Michael Mote put the hosts ahead in the 50th minute with a low strike into the corner of the net. Despite the setback, Southeastern remained composed and responded just over ten minutes later. In the 63rd minute,
Adam Cooil equalized with a composed finish inside the box to make it 2–2, reigniting the Fire attack.
From there, SEU dictated play, keeping constant pressure on the Warner back line and outshooting the Royals 21–8 overall and 14–5 on frame. With less than ten minutes to play, Dieng delivered the decisive blow, scoring the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute to seal the victory and cap off a three-point performance that included a goal and an assist.
Goalkeeper
Emmanuel Uwazie made three saves while anchoring a defense that limited Warner's scoring chances late. The Fire's composure and resilience in the closing stretch ensured their place in the upcoming Sun Conference Tournament, marking a key milestone in the team's postseason push.
Southeastern will close out the regular season on Wednesday, October 29, hosting St. Thomas University for Senior Night at 7 p.m. at SEU Soccer Field in Lakeland.
