Ave Maria and Florida Memorial Next for Women's Basketball

LAKELAND, Fla. – Last week started out a bit rough for Southeastern women's basketball as a 56-51 loss to Keiser snapped an 11-game win streak, but the slump was short lived. They bounced back with back-to-back wins, over Warner, 63-48 then St. Thomas, 74-56.

The Fire worked back from a 27-point deficit against Keiser but weren't able seal the deal before the final horn sounded. Alyssa Ramos led the Fire with 15 points and five of the Fire's eight total 3-point buckets. Twelve points belonged to Bailey Hooker while the Seahawks held Christin Strawbridge to just seven in 35 minutes.

Warner showed up at the Furnace two days later to face the redemption seeking Fire. The Royals scored first but Southeastern snagged the lead less than two minutes in and maintained it throughout. Strawbridge transitioned right back into doing what she does best as she led all scorers with 20 points and 13 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season. Carlie Newman also contributed double figures with 11 points and a 3-for-5 effort from long range.

A productive third quarter gave the Fire the edge over St. Thomas on Saturday. They took the lead for good with just over two minutes to play in the second, then found themselves up by 18 after 30 minutes. Strawbridge secured double-double number 12, good for first in the conference, with 19 points and 12 boards, both game highs. Hooker added 16 and a 7-for-9 effort from the field while Newman and Ramos also contributed double figures with 14 and 13, respectively.

With just two weeks to go in the regular season, the Fire are first in The Sun Conference at 9-2 and 18-4 overall. Webber trails close behind at 8-2 while the 7-2 St. Thomas Bobcats hold the third spot.
