LAKELAND, Fla.—Four teams are headed to the campus of Southeastern University to vie for The Sun Conference women's basketball championship, and claim the league's automatic bid to the NAIA Division II National Championship.
Following wins on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round, third-seeded Webber International and fourth-seeded Thomas will be joining top seed and host Southeastern and second seed St. Thomas at The Furnace on Friday and Saturday.
Webber International (19-10) had little trouble with county rival Warner at home, coming away with a 73-47 victory over the Royals. The Warriors forced 19 turnovers, and shot 41% from the field. Mar'Lisa Braxton led all scorers with 16 points and snagged seven rebounds.
Thomas (14-13) defeated Keiser for the third time this year, coming away with a 59-48 win at home over the Seahawks. Bra'Shay Ali registered a double-double of 13 points and 14 boards as her team outshot Keiser 43% to 33% from the field. The Night Hawks also enjoyed an eight rebound advantage.
St. Thomas and Webber split their regular season contests with each team winning at home. The most recent meeting was a 63-49 win for Webber on February 6
th.
Southeastern and Thomas also split their regular season meetings with each team winning on its home floor. The Fire lost a 70-64 game on February 10
th in Thomasville after being outscored 37-28 in the second half. In the game on January 14
th, the Fire were dominant, hitting 10 3-pointers, and shooting 42% from the field in a 67-49 win.
Tickets for the tournament are available at the door and are $5 for adults and $3 for students with ID and children under 12. Southeastern students are admitted free with ID.
