Box Score KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Fire women's basketball team captured their second win in "The Show" this afternoon. Southeastern is no stranger to Tennessee Wesleyan, as both teams squared off against each other in the opening round of the NAIA National Championship in 2015. The Bulldogs were victorious in that contest; however, the Fire got their revenge today. Due to the 85-53 victory over the Bulldogs, the Fire remain perfect, 7-0, on the season.
Southeastern's defense was firing on all cylinders this afternoon. The Fire held the Bulldogs to a 30% field goal percentage from the floor and were able to force 25 Bulldog turnovers, 18 of which were steals. As a result of the turnovers, the Fire were able to generate 23 points.
The Fire offense started the game with an 8-0 run and did not stop there. Southeastern was led by the senior from Lutz, Florida, Bailey Hooker. Hooker was 4-9 from beyond the arc and finished with a total of 20 points. Both Ana Richter and Christin Strawbridge scored double digit points; 12 and 13 respectively. As a whole, Southeastern was able to spread the ball around the floor and create scoring chances for all Fire players who were on the court at any given time.
Rebounding played a crucial part in the contest. The Fire out-rebounded their opponent 38 to 29 and manufactured 10 second chance points. Southeastern's Cassidy Block contributed greatly to this statistical category. Block completed the game with a team leading 10 boards.
The Bulldogs had a difficult time gaining any traction throughout the entire contest, but Gina Dick's performance was impressive. Dick shot 50% from the three point line and finished the game with 20 points. Her valiant effort, however, was just not enough to put out the Fire.
The Fire will return to the Furnace on December 1st when they take on cross county rival Warner University at 7 p.m.
