Fire Notables: Southeastern is stacked from the backline to the frontline in talent. The Fire are filled with players that are versatile enough to play back on defense and, when the time permits, move up into the attack.
Heading the offensive charge for the Fire is the senior Alyssa Kaminski. She has been a part of 10 goals this season, scoring nine and assisting on one. Kaminski is the team's leading aggressor with 37 shots taken, 22 of which have been on goal.
The Fire have goal scorers positioned all throughout the pitch which can be very daunting for any opponent. Konya Plummer and Shayna Cole are two of those threats. In her seven games started, Plummer has netted four goals and assisted in two. She is an electric player that is able to create a big play anytime throughout the match. Cole is another player who uses her speed to gain separation from the defenders around the net. The Delaware native has found the back of the net six times and has logged three assists on the season.
In her first match with the Fire, Uchenna Kanu was thrilling to watch. She managed to score a goal and was able to knife her way through multiple defenders. Anytime Kanu handled the ball she baffled opponents with her footwork. She will be an asset the Fire will look towards to create a big play in a key situation.
Southeastern's defense has been nothing short of stellar thus far. Their defense is headed by goalkeeper Sydni Brookhouser how has recorded 38 saves and has only surrendered four goals. Brookhouser, along with the back line consisting Megan Penhaligon and Heidi Ruth, is a combination that few opponents have not been able to crack in the 2016 season.
The Royals: After a pair of goals from Kristen Isabelle, the Royals were able to secure their first conference win on the road against Florida Memorial University. Warner enters the game against the Fire on a two game winning streak but face a formidable opponent in Southeastern.
Christina Clements and Isabelle have scored four of the Royals eight goals this season. There is not one dominant scoring threat on the Royals team, however they have six different girls who have found the back of the net.
The senior transfer from Polk State College, Elizabeth Lewis, has been apart of two goals this season, scoring one and assisting in another. Her lone goal came against the second ranked team in the nation, Keiser University.
Even though she is the Royal's leading aggressor with nine shots on the season, Ashley Cole has yet to score. When she does have an open lane to shoot, she is very accurate landing five of her nine shots on goal.
Spending the majority of the time in net for the Royals is Sarah Bergkvist. The sophomore prepped at Strawberry Crest High schools ranks 21st in all of the NAIA in saves per game (8.29). In total, Bergkvist has recorded 69 saves in seven games played. Her first win of the season came against Toccoa Falls college this past Friday.
The Warriors: The Warriors are led by coach Ashley Cockrell in her fourth season with the team. Prior to her position at Webber, Cockrell was the head coach at Lake Wales High School for five years.
Webber is home to the Sun Conference's leader in saves. Sarah McKinney has denied 80 shots this season which ranks 16th in all of the NAIA in saves per game and 38th in total saves. In their most recent match against St. Thomas University, Mckinney recorded nine saves in a tough 1-0 loss. The Warriors will lean on her to keep the intimidating Fire attack at bay.
Leading the offensive charge is the Auburndale, Florida native, Sydney Bailey. Bailey has scored three of the Warriors six goals this season. She also leads the team in shots taken with 13.
Assisting Bailey with the goal scoring duties is Philippa Wilson. Wilson's lone goal of the season came against conference opponent SCAD in what was a heartbreaking 2-1 loss.
Closing points: The Fire have an opportunity to secure two more conference wins this week. They will face tough goal keeping from both Bergkvist and McKinney, but will look to their explosive offensive in order to create chances in front of the net. Southeastern is putting together an incredible season thus far and are a must watch whenever they take to the pitch.
