Box Score NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - Proven relentless all year, Southeastern's attack did not disappoint today against the Wildcats. The Fire traveled south, to Miami, and came out victorious against Johnson & Wales by a score of 3-0. From the start of the game, the Fire maintained possession and applied an immense amount of pressure on the Wildcat defense.
Southeastern broke through in the 21st minute of the game when Soraya Martinez found the back of the net as the result of a ball ricocheting off the crossbar and falling at her feet, allowing her to deliver the strike and put the Fire up by one. Martinez was extremely aggressive throughout the contest, logging a total of five shots.
Ten minutes later the Fire struck again. This time Palm Beach Atlantic transfer Nicole Shaffer fed an exceptional cross into the box where Konya Plummer headed the ball beyond the goal line, providing Southeastern with a 2-0 lead at the end of the half.
Following the first half, Southeastern demonstrated they were not done yet. Just 48 seconds into the second half, Bania Duran received a pass from Martinez and beat the Wildcat goalkeeper to the top shelf from a very difficult angle. Even though the Fire then did not score during the remainder of the game, their attack was constant, applying pressure and logging 16 shots compared to the Wildcats' one.
Staying true to character, the Fire defense logged another scoreless game, marking their seventh shutout in nine games.
Due to the intense humidity and the "feels like" temperature of 92, the Fire rotated a total of 24 players in and out of the contest in order to maintain fresh legs.
Southeastern returns home for their next match when they take on St. Thomas University on Wednesday, October 5th, at 5 p.m.
