Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – Fire women's basketball moved to 16-3 and 6-1 in The Sun Conference this afternoon with a 93-51 win over the Johnson & Wales Wildcats.
Southeastern scored first and never looked back, taking the first quarter 28-13. They were 5-for-10 from the arc in the first thanks to a 4-for-4 effort from
Alyssa Ramos. She ended the afternoon 5-for-5 from the same spot and 8-for-9 from the field good for the game high 21 points.
The Fire kept the momentum going in the second quarter, allowing only five points on defense and securing another 27 for themselves. In the two quarters combined, the Fire were an impressive 67% from the field and 56% from beyond the arc. They enjoyed a 55-18 lead heading into the locker room.
Carlie Newman connected on her second long ball of the game with 2:08 to play in the third to give the Fire their largest lead of the game, up by 50, 76-26.
It was 80-31 heading into the fourth when the Wildcats took over, outscoring the Fire 20-13. They came as close as 39 with 3:38 to play, but their efforts were too little, too late.
Ali Sanders backed Ramos with 17 points. She was 6-for-8 from the field with eight rebounds and nine assists.
Bailey Hooker and
Christin Strawbridge were also double digit contributors with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Collectively, the Fire notched an impressive 30 assists on 34 field goals, seven blocks and out rebounded the Wildcats 47-38.
"We came out ready to go and that's what I like to see," said Interim Head Coach
Leann Dahlstein. "We had 30 assists so it's just really good to see everyone playing together against a good team."
The Fire are back in action on Tuesday as they take on the Seahawks of Keiser University. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in West Palm Beach.
