Volleyball Back in Action at Florida College

LAKELAND, Fla.—After a 1-3 trip to Montgomery for the Faulkner Invitational, the Fire are itching to get back on the court tonight in Temple Terrace against Florida College.

During the weekend, Fire freshman Victoria Trueheart was selected to the all-tournament team after averaging 3.2 kills per set, and finishing the weekend with a .238 attacking percentage, four solo blocks, two block assists, four aces, 47 digs, and 51 total kills.

"Victoria really stepped up for us this weekend against some tough opponents and continuously shows her ability to perform in pressure situations," said coach Audrey Gilbert. "I am very pleased at the level she is already performing at for her first year playing collegiate volleyball."

The Falcons come into the contest at 6-0, going unbeaten at the Keiser University Tournament, which included a five-set win over the host Seahawks. They are currently ranked first in the USCAA National Top 20 poll. Madison Bitton is the top offensive threat, ranked second in the USCAA in hitting percentage at .418.

"Tonight's game versus Florida College is going to take everyone taking care of their job and playing smart," said Gilbert of the keys to the game. "We have some powerful attackers but we tend to get into a slump and lose our ability to put the ball away.

"Defensively, we will have to match the aggressiveness of Florida College's defense in order to stay in the game. I have faith in the heart and passion of my team and look forward to seeing how they will perform tonight."

Following tonight's match, the Fire will have a week off before hosting Trinity College next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
