LAKELAND, FLA.-- Through five games, the Southeastern University women's soccer team stands at 4-1 and is eyeing three more wins this weekend. They went 2-0 this week, recording wins against NCAA Division III Oglethorpe College and conference rival Ave Maria.
The Fire won their second game of the week Saturday afternoon against Ave Maria, 2-0. Pifer and
Bre Eldridge proved to be all the offense the Fire needed, as
Kaitlyn Romero provided her first shutout of the season.
?This Thursday starts a long road trip, as they'll travel up to the Carolinas to take on the University of South Carolina Beaufort, Columbia International University, and Johnson and Wales University-Charlotte.
The Fire go up to Hardeeville, South Carolina to play USCB first in their first Sun Conference matchup of the season; the Sand Sharks are still in search of their first win of the season. They currently stand at 0-7-1.
"We are excited to start our first conference game. It will be a great test for us on the road. USCB is a physical team that will challenge us to step up our game," said coach
Renee Lopez.
?SEU will then travel to Columbia, South Carolina to visit Columbia International University. The Rams' women's soccer program is in its first year of existence and are 4-2 so far. They are currently on a two game losing streak after dropping contests to Southern Wesleyan University and Bluefield College.
"It's exciting to play at CIU as we have a lot of connections with their head coach Kara Farnsworth. She was my assistant for two years at Colorado Christian," said Lopez. "It will definitely be a game amongst friends. Although they are a first year program, Kara has done a great job in recruiting and coaching this team over the past year. They are a team we need to be both mentally and physically prepared for."
The last leg of the road trip will be in Charlotte, North Carolina as they'll play Johnson & Wales University-Charlotte. The Wildcats are also a first year program and are 1-2 so far, most recently picking up their first win of the year against Wake Tech Community College. ?
Commented Lopez, "They are also a brand-new program and we are excited to have an opportunity to play them in their first year."
