Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire moved to 3-1 this evening, shutting out the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University 3-0.
A ten day break after their first loss put an eager Fire squad on the pitch and they dominated the NCAA DIII squad through 90 minutes, peppering 43 shots to Oglethorpe's six.
Sydni Brookhouser was credited with the game winner as she found the back of the net in the 5
th minute following an
Alyssa Kaminski shot that ricocheted off the keeper's hands.
Their single goal advantage remained through halftime before Samantha Pifer made it 2-0 in the 54
th minute. She found the left post after weaving through multiple Petrels then finished to the ride side.
Alyssa Kaminski put the final goal on the board, and her first of the season, in the 81
st minute, beating the keeper from seven yards out.
Of Southeastern's 43 shots, 23 were on goal while the Petrels shot with perfect accuracy.
"I'm very pleased how the girls bounced back from a 10 day break," said Coach
Renee Lopez. "I commend our back line for keeping a clean sheet and it was exciting to see some of our younger players get a lot of time tonight."
Fire keeper
Jessica McClernan, was between the pipes for the first 67 minutes and was credited with two saves.
Kaitlyn Romero saw 23 minutes in the same spot, recording four saves.
Oglethorpe keeper Bailey Evans, was put to the test by the Fire front line and made an impressive 15 saves in the first 45.
"She was phenomenal in deflecting many of our shots," said Lopez of Evans.
The Fire will travel to Ave Maria on Saturday for a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
