LAKELAND, FLA.-- After three contests, the Southeastern Women's soccer team sits at 2-1 after a 3-0 defeat last week at the hands of NCAA Division II Eckerd College. Against EC, the Fire were outshot 22-10 and played on their own half of the field for the majority of the contest.
Before taking their first loss of the season, the Fire blew out Florida College the week before on their home field, 5-0. Bre Eldridge, Karly Palmar, Tori Irvin, Hunter Talley, and Jamie Green all had goals in the win.
After a 10-day break, they now look to NCAA DIII Oglethorpe College. "Our girls are very rested and hungry to get back on the field after a 10 days break," said coach Renee Lopez. The Stormy Petrels come into the young season with a record of 0-1 after dropping their first game of the season to Convenant College by a score of 2-1.
"They are a very experienced team, with eight seniors starting. We're looking to capitalize on some of their weaknesses in the back line and look to move the ball as quickly as we can in the midfield," added Lopez.
Thursday's game is set to start at 6 p.m. on the SEU soccer field.
