Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—Southeastern spoiled Embry-Riddle's final Sun Conference weekend series by taking two-of-three from the host Eagles in a split of Saturday's doubleheader.
After losing the first game 19-0 in seven innings, the Fire bounced back with a 4-3 win over the Eagles in the series finale.
Southeastern (34-17, 16-10 TSC) went in order in the first inning in game one, and watched the flood gates open as the Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead before an out was recorded. ERAU (31-15, 18-8 TSC) chased SEU starting pitcher Jordan Gard after six runs on five hits in 21 pitches. The Eagles notched 10 runs on eight hits in the bottom of the first, and coasted from there.
The Fire had just four hits, the first coming in the top of the third off the bat of Stetson McCollin on a single to right center. The only time the Fire threatened was in the sixth when they had first and tird with two outs, but a grounded ended the inning.
Embry-Riddle picked up a run in the bottom of the first of the second game of the day, but the Fire tied it in the top of the second on an RBI groundout by Daniel Acevedo scoring Luis Diaz.
In the top of the third, the Fire took the lead on an Eagle error, allowing Hunter Bonner to score from second. Josiel Colon hit an RBI single, then Willi Martin scored on an error later in the inning to make it 4-1 Fire.
That was more than enough for Patrick Kinney, who worked 8.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Cole Yoder came in to get the final out of the game.
Southeastern will host NCAA Division II #11 Florida Tech on Tuesday for Senior Day at 6 p.m.
