Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, FLA.– Hot shooting has been the theme of the season and today was no different. On Saturday afternoon, Southeastern took care of the Northwood University Seahawks, winning 74-63. With the win, the Fire improve to 11-2 in Sun Conference play and 20-5 overall. Their win streak is up to seven straight games, their highest of the season thus far.
The Fire were given the green light early and often as they converted on nine of their 21 3-point attempts in the first half. Their shooting only got better as the game went along, as they converted on another 55% of their 3-balls to finish the day with a 47% 3-pt field goal percentage, and a 44% FG percentage overall.
There was never any doubt; Emma Loucks drained a three point basket at the 9:22 mark to give the Fire a lead they would keep for the rest of the game. After that 3-ball, the Fire went on a torrid 20-6 run to erase any hopes of a comeback.
Bailey Hooker had another impressive game, as she scored 13 points. Junior Carlie Newman led the team in scoring for the day with 16, and Loucks scored 15; her second straight game scoring in the double digits. Sophomore Alyssa Ramos played under the radar for the majority of the game, leading the team with six assists.
"We had big contributions from Emma [Loucks] and Carlie [Newman]," commented coach Bekah Day. "Our main focus this week was taking care of the ball, staying focused, and staying motivated."
The roadtrip continues for the Fire on Tuesday as they travel up to Thomasville, Georgia to take on the Nighthawks of Thomas University. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
