LAKELAND, FLA.-- After going a week without scoring a victory, the Southeastern women's soccer team rebounded with two Sun Conference wins in a row.
It took a rally to get past rival St. Thomas. After being down 1-0 at the half,
Hunter Talley tied it up in the 50th minute before
Karly Palmar put the Fire ahead for good in the 82nd minute.
A couple days later, the Fire went back down to Miami Gardens to play the Florida Memorial University Lions. It took another rally to take down the Lions; the Fire were down 1-0 at the half again before
Bre Eldridge netted two late goals to bring the Fire back.
The Fire now stand at 8-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play, which is good for fourth in the conference. They'll travel up to Savannah, Georgia Thursday to take on the Savannah College of Art and Design before traveling down to Thomasville, Georgia to take on the Thomas University Night Hawks.
The Bees of SCAD are currently sitting at the top of the Sun Conference with a 6-0 conference record and a 9-3-2 record overall.
"There is a great reason why they are undefeated in our conference. SCAD is a very attacking-minded team with three great attackers, especially Medhbh Deeny," said coach
Renee Lopez. "We need to shut those three down and work 90 minutes straight."
They are in the midst of a seven-game winning streak, most recently beating Sun Conference opponents Keiser and Johnson & Wales.
?"They capitalize on defensive errors so we need to be smart across our back line. This is a great opportunity for our team to show what we are made of and leave it all on the field," commented Lopez.
After the Thursday contest against the Bees, the Fire will go down to Thomasville, where the Night Hawks of Thomas will be waiting for them Saturday afternoon.
The Night Hawks are 2-4 in conference play and 5-8 overall. They were most recently shut out by Keiser by a score of 4-0. Mackenzie Dolan leads the team in scoring with six goals scored.
After the roadtrip, the Fire will host Warner University on October 21st.?
