Women’s Basketball Falls to Great Falls

Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire suffered their first loss of the season this afternoon to NAIA Division I University of Great Falls, 83-75.

The Argos scored first and held the lead until Alyssa Ramos hit the third of her six 3-pointers to go up 12-10 at the 16:02 mark. Two consecutive Fire turnovers just a minute later set the Argos up to even the score and power a 14-0 run to go up 28-14 with 10:03 to play.

The Fire never regained the lead and saw their largest deficit with 5:05 remaining in the first, down 18, but managed to come as close as seven on multiple second half occasions.

Ramos was the leading Fire scorer with 21 points. She shot with 75% accuracy from beyond the arc, hitting three in the opening four minutes. Carlie Newman and Emma Loucks were also in double digits with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

"When we executed our defensive game plan and controlled the tempo, we looked really good," said Coach Jody Martinez. "Our weakness is rebounding. They had 23 offensive rebounds and that's going to hurt you every time."

The Fire take the court again on Saturday against Lindsey Wilson College. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Furnace.
