The Fire women's tennis team collected is most impressive win in recent program history on Monday, defeating NJCAA No. 15 ranked ABAC (Abraham Baldwin Agri. College), Ga. in a thrilling 5-4 battle that lasted over four hours before the final outcome was determined.
The Fire opened the match evenly splitting the six singles points, winning at the top three positions, but losing at the bottom positions. All of the matches, won or lost, were remarkably close. With the overall match score knotted at 3-3, it was critical that the Fire come out strong in doubles, and they come out red hot. The #1 doubles combination of Sadia Mayou/Alexis Quinn and the #3 doubles combination of Stephanie Dodd/Mason Bellar jumped out to quick 2-1 leads in their respective pro-sets, then poured on the heat to push their leads to 7-1. Both won easily, and secured a major victory for the Fire women's tennis program. Collectively, this performance was the best of the season thus far.
