The Fire men's tennis team fell to NJCAA No. 13 ranked ABAC in a hard-fought four match that saw many close matches, but no individual wins in a 0-9 loss at SEU's home courts on Monday.
The match opened with all three doubles teams battling in close contests, including a very narrow loss at #1 doubles by an 8-6 score. The closest match of the day, however, came at #3 singles. In this match, SEU's Jordan Harris came out red hot; Harris won the first set 6-0, and was up 4-0 in the second set, when the tide changed. Stomach cramps started to take their toll, and ABAC's Ricky Symanski would gradually work his way back into the match and eventually win the second set 7-6 (7-5) in a tie-breaker, then won the third set as well. The Fire's Andrew Dickens (#2 singles) also played a very close match, losing in three sets. Luke Witte, at #5 singles, was also very close, but could not hang on to either of his sets, falling 6-4, 7-5. Overall, a very competitive match in which the Fire narrowly fell short in several matches.
