Lakeland, Fla. - The Southeastern University men's and women's tennis teams opened their season on Tuesday against defending Sun Conference champion Embry Riddle, losing both matches by the final score of 9-0.
Although Embry Riddle swept all the points in both matches, there were several very competitive positions, and the Fire represented itself very well.
Embry Riddle will open the season as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation in the NAIA in men's tennis, and No. 2 nationally in women's tennis.
For the women's team, Stephanie Dodd, playing No. 5 singles, extended her match to three sets; she was outstanding all day and nearly pulled off a major upset. Additionally, Wendy Reade and Kristina Wisor, playing No. 3 doubles, fell by a 9-7 pro-set score.
For the men's team, Sergei Krasilnikov, playing No. 1 singles, took an early 2-0 lead in the first set, then fell narrowly by a 7-5 score. Krasilnikov lost the second set 6-1, but it was closer than the score indicates. Jordan Harris, playing No. 3 singles fell 6-2, 6-2.
