LAKELAND--The Fire women's tennis team battled for 3 1/2 hours, Wednesday evening, versus Aquinas College, eventually falling 7-2.Â
The match opened with Aquinas sweeping all three doubles matches, with each match hotly contested. Chelsey Lynn and Wendey Reade battled but fell just short, 8-6, in their doubles match versus Emily Decker and Lauren Ramey. Kristina Wisor and Stephanie Dodd lost, 8-3, to Gina Kukulski and Jessica LeMirg. Playing No. 3 doubles, Heather Ericksen and Raimey Carlton lost a hard fought match, 8-5.
Wisor and Reade picked up singles victories for the Lady Fire. Wisor defeated Decker 6-1, 6-4 while Reade needed an extra tie-breaker set to beat LeMirg, winning 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Playing in the No. 1 singles position, Lynn came out on the losing end of a great match, falling to Daniela Fonseca 1-6, 6-3, 10-6.
Dodd also lost a heart breaking match in the No. 4 spot, losing 6-3, 4-6, 10-4.
Southeastern is now 2-7 on the year, and will travel next week to take on Shorter College, in Rome, Ga.
