Alma Nips Lady Fire, 5-4

LAKELAND--It was a match of huge momentum swings between Southeastern University and Alma College, Saturday afternoon as the Lady Fire fell just short, 5-4, and lose their fourth straight match. 

Alma took an early lead 2-1 in doubles play, and quickly increased their lead to 4-1 after winning in straight sets at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions. But, then it was the Fire's turn to grab the momentum. Playing in the No. 1 singles spot, SEU's Chelsey Lynn demolished her opponent, winning 6-1, 6-2. Then at No. 2 singles, Kristina Wisor, won 11 straight games at one point to defeat Erin Clotter 6-4, 6-1. 

Next, SEU's Wendy Reade defeated Amy Baranowski 6-2, 6-3 in No. 3 singles tying the match 4-4, and leaving SEU's Stephanie Dodd and Katie Meloche as the deciding game of the match.

Dodd easily won the first set 6-2, and was up 5-2 in the second set, before Meloche took over and eventually won 7-5. Meloche built off of her comback in the second set to win the third set, 7-5, and give Alma a 5-4 victory. 

Southeastern is now 2-5 on the year overall, and will play Davenport University, Tuesday afternoon, in Orlando, Fla.
