DAYTONA, Fla.--Southeastern University ran into a talented NAIA Top 10 opponent, Saturday morning, as Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Fire. It was SEU's second straight match versus a NAIA Top 10 team, as the Fire lost to No. 3 Embry-Riddle University, on Friday afternoon.
Chelsey Lynn and Wendy Reade battled Theresa Schumans and Magda Bresson in doubles action, eventually falling 8-2. SCAD's No. 2 doubles team of Maria Barrigan and Caroline Viteri combined to defeat SEU's Kristina Wisor and Stephanie Dodd, 8-1. In the final doubles match, SEU's Lexus Potts and Heather Ericksen lost, 8-0, to Charlotte Delbrey and Andrea Gonzalez.
Playing in the No. 1 singles position, Chelsey Lynn gave one of the best NAIA players in the nation all she could handle, but eventually lost 6-3, 6-0 to Theresa Schumans. SEU's Stephanie Dodd managed to grab two games from Viteri, in the No. 4 spot, falling 6-0, 6-2. All other matches found Southeastern players win at least one game.
Southeastern is now 2-3 overall on the year, and 2-2 in conference play.
The schedule does not get any easier for the Fire, as they will play their third straight match versus a NAIA Top 25 school on Wednesday, when they will host No. 24 Webber International University. Match time is set for 3:00 p.m.
