Box Score 2 WALESKA, Ga.--The SEU Lady Fire tennis team grabbed two victories this weekend in Georgia, ending a three-game road trip in the Peach State.
Southeastern cruised to a 9-0 victory over Emmanuel College on Friday, before defeating Reinhardt University, 8-1, on Saturday.
Versus Emmanuel, SEU's Autumn Housefield and Amanda Summers defeated Jaclyn Klerk and Erica Fortson, 8-2, to draw first blood.
Minutes later, Chelsey Lynn and Alexandra Fraser put SEU ahead, 2-0, after they combined to defeat Christianne Tetley and Rachel Gregory, 8-2.
Noelle Cottom and Wendy Reade followed with an 8-4 win over Olivia Gish and Kristin Porterfield, to give the Lady Fire a clean sweep in doubles action.
Next, Reade was rewarded a victory by default, to give the Lady Fire a 4-0 advantage to start singles play.
Housefield then clinched the match for Southeastern, winning easily over Klerk 6-1, 6-0, which gave SEU the ever important fifth point.
Summers won her match 6-3, 6-1 over Gish while Cottom grabbed a 6-2, 7-5 win over Kristin Porterfield.
Fraser followed and kept SEU perfect on the day with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Gregory.
The best match of the day came between No. 1 players Chelsey Lynn and Christianne Tetley. Lynn grabbed set one, 6-4, before winning 7-6 (8-6) in a tiebreaker.
Southeastern carried over their dominance, Saturday, versus Reinhardt University, as every Lady Fire player contributed at least one point in the match.
In doubles, Housefield and Summers once again set the tone early, winning over Sarah Richards and Brandi Ward, 8-2. Next, Lynn and Fraser teamed up to defeat Kayla Spivey and Mandy Renta, 8-3, putting SEU ahead, 2-0.
A very close doubles match then followed, as Cottom and Wargo combined to win in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-3), over Lauren Long and Cassie Quast.
Heading into singles action, Cottom extended SEU's lead to, 4-0, as she won easily over Richards 6-0, 6-1. Cottom finished with a perfect 3-0 record in singles play on the road trip.
Lynn then won the match for Southeastern, defeating Reinhardt's No. 1 player, Mandy Renta, 6-3, 6-2 to give SEU five points.
Fraser followed with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Spivey while Reade won 6-1, 6-0 over Ward. Housefield finished with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Long, and went 2-1 in singles play on the trip.
SEU's only loss came in a great match between Amanda Summers and Cassie Quest. Summers lost set one in a tiebreaker 6-7 (2-7), but then responded with a 6-1 victory in the second game. Quest eventually won Reinhardt's only point in the final set, 10-7.
The two victories on the weekend now improves SEU's overall record to 6-9 on the year.
Southeastern will next host Ave Maria University, Friday afternoon, at 1:00 p.m.
