Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.--The Lady Fire tennis team had a tall order, Tuesday afternoon, facing No. 5 Embry-Riddle University for their season home opener. SEU went onto lose the match, 9-0, despite showing plenty of heart versus one of the best programs nationally within the NAIA.
ERU set the tone in doubles action, as Yi Ching Chen and Josefine Strom defeated Noelle Cottom and Alexandra Fraser, 8-0. Kristina Marova and Paola Montero also won their match, 8-0, over SEU's Wendy Reade and Autumn Housefield.
Southeastern's Chelsey Lynn and Amanda Summers put up a nice fight versus two highly touted ERU players, Rocio Frej Vitalle and Ekaterina Kamendova, but eventually went onto lose the match, 8-2.
In singles play, SEU's Lynn and Cottom were able to pick up single game victories within their match versus two tough ERU players. Lynn lost, 6-0, 6-1 to ERU's No. 1 player Chen while Cottom was defeated by Marova, 6-1, 6-0.
ERU's Kamendova and Strom both won their matches 6-0, 6-0, over Fraser and Reade respectively.
SEU's Amanda Summers and Autumn Housefield were the only players who were able to win two games within their matches. Summers lost to Vitalle, 6-2, 6-0, while Housefield fell to Landyn Scudder, 6-0, 6-2.
Southeastern is now 0-2 overall and 0-2 within The Sun Conference. The Lady Fire will face another NAIA Top 25 opponent from out of The Sun Conference this weekend, when they face St. Thomas University, at home on Friday. Match time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
