HARDEEVILLE, S.C. — The No. 14 Southeastern Fire held off the WVU Tech Golden Bears, 3-2, Sunday afternoon, improving to 4-1-1 on the season.

SEU wasted little time finding the back of the net, as Momo Sato opened the scoring just 1:27 into the match, recording her first goal as a member of the Fire. SEU carried the lead into halftime despite both teams creating opportunities throughout the opening 45 minutes.

The Fire came out firing in the second half, adding two more goals within the first 18 minutes. At 54:14, Olivia Hadad doubled the lead with an assist from Sato. Just over eight minutes later, Sara Irurozki found the back of the net to push the Fire's advantage to 3-0.

WVU Tech refused to go quietly. Julia Silva scored twice in a span of just 2:40, first finding the net at 80:14 before adding another goal at 82:54, cutting the Fire's lead to 3-2 and making for a tense final few minutes.

The Golden Bears continued to pressure the Fire late, but the Fire's defense held strong. WVU Tech recorded two additional shots in the final four minutes, but neither found the back of the net as the Fire secured the 3-2 victory.

SEU finished with a 15-13 advantage in shots and earned six corner kicks compared to four for WVU Tech. Sato led the Fire offensively with three shots, one goal and one assist, while Hadad and Irurozki each added a goal.

Goalkeeper Camila Berrios played the first half for the Fire, while Madison Songer recorded two saves during her 45 minutes in goal.

With the win, SEU moves to 4-1-1 on the season, while WVU Tech falls to 2-3-0.
