AVE MARIA, Fla. — Southeastern women's soccer opened Sun Conference play in dominant fashion Wednesday night, defeating Ave Maria 4-0 at Gyrene Field.
The Fire improved to 7-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in Sun Conference play, while Ave Maria fell to 3-3-2 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
SEU took a 1-0 lead just before halftime when
Rebecca Laface found the back of the net in the 43rd minute. Laface put two of her team's 12 shots on goal during the match.
The Fire wasted little time adding to its advantage after halftime.
Olivia Thomassy scored just 1:44 into the second half to give SEU a 2-0 lead.
The team continued to control the match as
Sara Irurozki added the Fire's third goal in the 74th minute. Less than two minutes later,
Olivia Hadad found the back of the net to complete the scoring and give the Fire a 4-0 advantage.
The four goals came from four different SEU players, while the Fire's defense held Ave Maria to just five shots and four shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Madison Songer recorded four saves to secure the shutout.
SEU also held a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks and registered eight shots on goal compared to four for Ave Maria.
The Fire opened conference play with a clean sheet and will look to continue its momentum when SEU returns to action on October 3rd against Florida Memorial.
