LAKELAND, Fla. — Southeastern women's soccer opened Sun Conference play at home with a dominant second-half performance, defeating Florida Memorial 4-0 on Saturday at SEU Soccer Field.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Fire broke through in the 59th minute when
Olivia Hadad finished off a combination from
Sara Irurozki and
Momo Sato to give SEU the lead.
The Fire continued to apply pressure, doubling their advantage in the 66th minute. Sato found the back of the net off a pass from
Nerea Hernandez and Irurozki, putting SEU ahead 2-0.
Just four minutes later, Sato struck again, heading home a redirected free kick to complete the Fire's three-goal stretch in just over 11 minutes.
Sato capped off her standout performance in the 82nd minute, scoring her third goal of the match off assists from
Jenna Maiorino and
Melina Ramos to give the Fire a 4-0 advantage. She completed a perfect hat trick in the second half, scoring with her right foot, left foot and head.
SEU controlled the match offensively, outshooting Florida Memorial 25-8 and putting 12 shots on goal. The Fire also led 11-2 in corner kicks.
Sato led the way with three goals on seven shots, while Hadad added a goal and four shots on goal. Irurozki recorded two assists, while Maiorino and Ramos each added an assist.
The Fire defense held Florida Memorial scoreless throughout the afternoon, with
Madison Songer and
Jordyn Velasco combining for the shutout. Songer recorded two saves in the second half.
With the victory, SEU improves to 8-2-1 overall and 2-0 in Sun Conference play. Florida Memorial falls to 6-4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
