LAKELAND, Fla. — The No. 13 Southeastern University women's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over No. 22 Georgia Gwinnett on Thursday night on the SEU Soccer Field, improving to 6-2-1 on the season.

The Fire struck first in the 26th minute when an own goal by Georgia Gwinnett, forced by Sara Irurozki, gave SEU the 1-0 advantage. The team carried the lead into halftime after limiting the Grizzlies to just two shots in the opening 45 minutes while recording seven of their own.

SEU came out of the halftime break looking to add to its lead, and Momo Sato delivered in the 58th minute. Sato found the back of the net for her second goal of the season, volleying home a loose ball, extending the Fire's advantage to 2-0.

Georgia Gwinnett answered less than 10 minutes later, as Barbora Kadlecova converted a penalty kick in the 67th minute to bring the Grizzlies within one at 2-1.

The Fire defense held strong over the final 23 minutes to preserve the victory. Madison Songer made three saves in goal for SEU, including a save on a Hannah Lorenz shot in the 72nd minute and another on a Kendra Delgado attempt in the 76th.

Both teams finished with 10 shots, while SEU put six attempts on target. Georgia Gwinnett recorded eight corner kicks to the Fire's two, but Southeastern maintained their one-goal advantage through the final whistle.

With the 2-1 result, No. 13 SEU moves to 6-2-1 on the season, while No. 22 Georgia Gwinnett falls to 4-5.

Now Southeastern takes to the road, turning their attention to Ave Maria on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m..
