No. 4 Fire Men's Tennis Stays Perfect at Home with Shutout of No. 15 Mariners

Despite a changed lineup, the NAIA No. 4 SEU rolled past NAIA No. 15 Coastal Georgia

LAKELAND, Fla. -- No. 4 Southeastern improved their home record to 8-0 this afternoon, defeating No. 15 College of Coastal Georgia in Lakeland, 4-0.

The Fire (13-3, 5-1 SUN), secured the doubles point with wins on the top two courts.

Piero Fernandez and Aristeidis Lafazanos started the march to victory with a 6-2 win over Caspar Grylls and Geronimo Gonzalez. It took a few moments before the doubles point was secured, and it came in a massive way as Pedro De La Riva and Gustavo Rubio shocked No. 8 Artur Pons Medina and Salvador Pons Medina, 6-4, on line one. 

Line three remained unfinished as Javier Gallego and Nikolas Kumria were making a massive rally, tied at 5-5 with the Mariners after trailing 5-1.

The doubles point, granted the early 1-0 advantage, and the Fire never looked back. No. 11 Gallego cruised past Salvador Pons Medina, 6-0, 6-0, on line two.

Up 2-0 now, the freshman Kumria improved his personal record to 9-0 on line six with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Max Kiramyr. pushing the lead to 3-0.

The match was decided by De La Riva as he claimed 6-0, 6-2 win over Gonzalo Tano on line three, winning his 12th match in a row.

Three matches went unfinished. No. 23 Fernandez led No. 67 Artur Pons Medina 6-4, 5-1 on line one, controlling game and set point when the match was called.

Lafazanos was playing up a court, and had dropped the first set but was up in the second on line four 3-6, 4-1. Leonardo Chiari playing in place of the injured Gonzalo Fernandez was in a tight battle on line five, trailing 3-6, 3-2.

The Fire turn their attention to the regular season finale, hosting No. 22 SCAD-Savannah tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
