SARASOTA, Fla. -- Southeastern Women's Basketball left no doubt on Wednesday night, turning in a dominant road performance to secure a championship milestone. The Fire rolled to an 83–27 victory over New College of Florida, clinching the program's eighth Sun Conference regular season title and earning the right to host the conference tournament semifinals and championship on February 27–28.
From the opening tip, SEU (23-3, 13-1 Sun) set the tone defensively and never let up. The Fire held New College to just two points in the first quarter while building a 24–2 advantage. That early surge effectively put the game out of reach and allowed Southeastern to control the tempo throughout the night.
SEU's depth and balance were on full display. Four players finished in double figures, led by
Mya Herman's 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including three triples.
Alley Haas was lethal from beyond the arc, knocking down five three-pointers on her way to 15 points.
Grace Field added 15 points and seven rebounds, while
Sarah Davis chipped in 13 points and seven boards.
The Fire shot 47.6 percent from the floor and 40.6 percent from three-point range as a team, connecting on 13 shots from deep. Southeastern also forced 30 New College turnovers and converted those opportunities into 28 points, showcasing the defensive pressure that has been a hallmark of the team all season. SEU finished with a 35–23 rebounding edge and 28 bench points.
The night also featured a special individual milestone. Field recorded the 1,000th rebound of her career during the contest, officially joining the exclusive 1,000 points–1,000 rebounds club.
New College (7-15, 0-13 Sun) struggled to find rhythm against Southeastern's defense, shooting just 22.2 percent from the field and 16.0 percent from three.
With the regular season crown secured, Southeastern now shifts focus to the final stretch of the regular season. Saturday's matchup at Warner marks the first of two games remaining and the Fire's final road contest of the year. SEU will travel to Lake Wales for a 2 p.m. tip on February 14.
