Second Quarter Proves Costly in Road Loss at Keiser

SEU drops road Sun Conference matchup

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Southeastern Women's Basketball suffered a 64–39 setback at Keiser on Wednesday evening in West Palm Beach, as the Fire were unable to recover from a decisive second-quarter surge by the Seahawks.

Southeastern opened the game with strong energy and execution, leading for much of the first quarter. The Fire shot efficiently early and built a five-point advantage midway through the opening period before taking a slim 15–14 lead into the second. Mya Herman and Grace Field helped set the tone, combining for early baskets as SEU controlled tempo and limited Keiser's transition opportunities.

The momentum shifted sharply in the second quarter, as Keiser used defensive pressure and fast-break scoring to take command. The Seahawks outscored Southeastern 25–8 in the period, shooting nearly 67 percent from the field while forcing multiple turnovers that led to easy points. SEU struggled to find rhythm offensively during the stretch, going scoreless from the perimeter in the quarter as Keiser built a 39–23 halftime advantage.

Keiser continued to extend its lead coming out of the break, opening the third quarter on a sustained run behind efficient shooting and interior scoring. Southeastern battled defensively but was unable to slow Keiser's momentum, falling behind by as many as 29 late in the third.

The Fire showed resilience in the fourth quarter, holding Keiser to five points over the final 10 minutes while winning the period 9–5. Southeastern generated cleaner looks and forced several stops, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.

Mya Herman led Southeastern with 15 points, while Grace Field added 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds. The Fire finished with 28 rebounds and held Keiser to 25 percent shooting in the fourth quarter.

Southeastern moves to 14–3 overall and 4–1 in Sun Conference play and returns home on Saturday, January 10, to host New College of Florida at 2 p.m. inside The Furnace as conference action continues in Lakeland.
