Southeastern Overwhelms New College, 86–28

Fire defense clamps down while Mya Herman’s milestone night highlights the largest win since February 2022

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Southeastern Women's Basketball delivered a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, rolling past New College of Florida 86–28 at The Furnace in a wire-to-wire victory that highlighted both individual milestones and the continued depth of the Fire lineup.

From the opening tip, Southeastern set the tone on both ends of the floor, racing out to a 29–12 lead after the first quarter behind crisp ball movement and relentless defensive pressure. The Fire limited New College to just five made field goals in the opening 10 minutes while forcing early turnovers that quickly turned into points on the other end. Southeastern followed with an even more stifling second quarter, outscoring the visitors 25–4 to take a commanding 54–16 advantage into halftime.

Mya Herman was once again at the center of the offensive surge. The junior guard poured in 23 points in just 19 minutes of action, marking her seventh game this season with 20 or more points. Early in the fourth quarter, Herman knocked down a basket that pushed her career total past the 1,000-point mark, making her the eighth player in program history to reach the milestone.

Southeastern's balance and depth were on full display throughout the afternoon. The Fire finished with 13 assists on 32 made field goals and saw 10 different players score. Sarah Davis added 11 points off the bench, while Grace Field chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds. Mafalda Chambel facilitated the offense with eight assists, helping Southeastern maintain its pace even as rotations shifted freely.

Defensively, the Fire were just as impressive. New College was held to 20.9 percent shooting from the field and managed only 28 total points, including single-digit scoring in three of the four quarters. Southeastern's pressure disrupted passing lanes and limited clean looks, as the Fire forced 30 turnovers and converted them into consistent scoring opportunities.

The final margin of 58 points marked Southeastern's third win this season by 50 or more points and represented the program's largest margin of victory since February 2022. Despite the lopsided score, the Fire maintained intensity from start to finish, continuing to defend, rebound, and share the ball well into the fourth quarter.

Southeastern improved to 15–3 overall and 5–1 in conference play with the win, continuing to build momentum as the season moves deeper into January.

The Fire return to action on Wednesday, January 14, when they host Warner at 5:30 p.m. inside The Furnace.
